Last Minute Halloween Sewing
Filing: Uncategorized — CatsCradleCreations @ 11:02 am

I’ve hit a glitch. Actually, I’ve hit two glitches. The pattern for my 4-yr-old’s Halloween costume is missing a page. Not good. It’s a page I need! I’ve written to the pattern company and they happily sent me a copy of one of the missing pieces, but in my haste, I neglected to notice that I was missing two, not one, pieces of the pattern.

I’ve written the pattern company again, this time asking for measurements on the bottom flare of the larger missing piece. I have the corresponding back piece, and the front piece is the same length, just with an added flare. *sigh* I was doing so well, then my flow was interrupted. I hope I get back into it because I have to get this costume finished for tonight!

Oh yeah, this is a discontinued pattern, so any pieces that are missing have to be supplied by copies, not the actual tissue paper pattern. That’s why I simply asked for dimensions on the large missing piece. I don’t have kraft paper around and don’t want to piece together a pattern piece when I have a suitable guide.

Many thanks to Ruth Burkhardt at Simplicity Patterns for her help in this endeavor to complete my sewing project!

Happy Halloween

What Halloween Figure Are You? (MANY RESULTS WITH SIX ALL NEW ONES!!)

Sneaky, sneaky one. You are witty and a master of trickery. You like to scare people and perhaps rob them. Haha. You could be a good dealer and negotiator, which is interesting. You barely ever get caught in what you do, and you like it. That’s why you might do some things you’re not supposed to–you know you’ll get away with it. It’s people like you that could unexpectedly get caught. Anyway have a good time tricking people. Have a Happy Halloween, Eight-Legged Friend.

WARNING: Major rant with strong language follows. Read at your own risk.

I don’t normally rant about work, but what happened Sunday warrants letting off some major steam so I don’t blow.

Yesterday, I had my Kids’ Scrapbooking class at Michaels, where we were going to create Halloween pages. I had all my materials ready for 6 kids, as advised by my Events Coordinator. I had done this almost a month in advance, so I was very confident about being prepared for my first kids’ class. Also as advised, all my materials were marked as follows:

Class Supplies

Would someone please explain to me why (more…)

Not really into posting much today. There’s a light dusting of snow from last night and there are some flakes swirling in the wind. Hubby and I are getting ready for NaNoWriMo as we are going to write a novel together. I’ve been asked to provide a tutorial for my drop spindles, so I will post the method on Patterns by CCC in the next day or two.

I have to get to my sewing maching now. I promised my youngest boy, a huge Star Wars fan, that I would make him an Obi-Wan Kenobi costume for this year. I have his cape cut but not sewn. I still have to lay out his tunic and shoulder armor. Thankfully, Del has already bought the light saber to go with his costume. Delbert had to tell us what color Obi-Wan’s light saber is (it’s blue) because we honestly forgot! Next wood-woking project: Harry Potter wand for middle boy’s costume!

I finished my drop spindles and actually took pics! Here they are in their Wild Berry glory with a nice glossy finish. I plan on putting the top whorl spindle to work tonight and start spinning my silk.

What to do with the seeds from your Halloween Jack-o’-Lantern? Roast them for a tasty treat! I’ll be serving roasted pumpkin seeds at our Cub Scout Pack’s Halloween party Tuesday night as a special treat for the boys.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

What You Need

  • 1 1/2 cups raw whole pumpkin seeds, do not wash
  • 2 teaspoons butter, melted
  • 1 pinch salt

What You Do

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  2. Toss seeds in a bowl with the melted butter and salt. Spread the seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown; stir occasionally.

Serve in a seasonal or glass bowl. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
